Beyond the Battalion

Last year, Julian Arahanga from AWA films approached us about his latest documentary project.

Beyond the Battalion is a story about a little known documentary called Sons of Tumataenga directed by Michael Havas. The documentary follows the 1977 pilgrimage trip made by the survivors and descendants of the 28th Māori Battalion as they travel back to the battlesites and the cemetaries from WWII.

Ruth and I co-production managed the project, we learnt a lot about this important chapter of our history and the people and families that characterised it.

Beyond the Battalion will screen on Anzac Day - April 25th, 2017 on Māori Television.
