Do you need a video made, but don't know what steps to take?

We find that we often ask clients and collaborators the same set of questions when we sit down to talk a project through. We’ve made a handy list for you to start thinking about.

1. What is the story you want to tell?

What are the key messages or message? A good start point is to bullet point your main ideas and prioritise them. The best stories are simply told and it’s great if you can distill your story into one sentence.

2. Who are you telling your story to?

Who are your audience? Be specific - it would be great if it really was everyone but you’re better off targeting a clear group. Once you understand the people you're telling your story to it will be a lot easier to understand how to connect with them.

3. Where will your story be seen?

It’s important to understand how your story is going to be broadcast as it affects what you put in the video and the style of video. If you’re wanting to tell a story via social media it needs to be short and attention grabbing - a video on your website should integrate with the other information on the site and  a video at an event or presentation may be longer, with more information.

4. What resources do you have?

Asking how much a video will cost is a little like asking how long is a piece of string. Beginning with a budget in mind makes it a lot easier to show you examples of what you could expect. You should also consider other resources that you might have - such as talent, locations, equipment and how urgently you need it. If possible, try not to rush it - the clearer your brief is and the more time that is invested in planning and ideas, the better your finished product will be.
