Manawa Karioi Documentary

An inspirational, observational documentary about Manawa Karioi, One of Wellington's oldest reforestation project which is nestled in the hills near the south coast. It is located on a steep piece of land originally owned by a French order of sisters who then sold it to Kaumatua Bruce Stewart. Bruce enabled the reforestation project alongside the building of the iconic Tapu Te Ranga Marae.

The 19-hectare block of land has a diverse history, from kumara pits, kohekohe forests, a fresh water spring, Māori occupation, a 100-year-old reservoir built by unionists and sisters, and a cattle and sheep farm. Manawa Karioi is now a successful restoration project and is celebrating it's 30 year anniversary this year.
